KIDAPAWAN CITY (MindaNews/04 September) – For the second year in a row, the Catholic church has become the beneficiary of the “Kumbira sa Kapitolyo” (Feast at the Capitol) of the province of North Cotabato’s Kalivungan Festival and 98th Foundation Anniversary.

The “Kumbira sa Kapitolyo” took place after the culmination program on Saturday, September 1, where lunch packs were sold for just P10 each.

The lunch packs contained bottled water, rice, fried chicken, steak and muffins.

Last year, capitol’s neighbor, the Good Shepherd Quasi Parish was the lone beneficiary of the P200,000 proceeds from the Kumbira.

Gov. Emmylou Taliño-Mendoza said at least 30,000 lunch packs were sold out to the spectators who gathered at the capitol grounds in Barangay Amas for the culmination program.

People from different walks of life secured the P10 tickets and endured the long queue amid the drizzle.

Mendoza said that the proceeds will be shared to the Good Shepherd Quasi Parish, Mt. Carmel parish in Carmen town and the St. John Vianney Parish in Sandawa Homes of this city.

She added that the funds will be used for the ongoing construction of these churches.

“We are also grateful for the support of all sectors of both government and private, including the religious, groups,” said the
governor, adding that this year’s festivity is so far the biggest with 41 events fanned out in different municipalities.

This has made erstwhile sleepy towns to take part in the annual festival, which also included several traditional games.

Meanwhile, the Midsayap dancers from Salunayan National High School dethroned the multi-titled dancers from Alamada town during the street dancing competition on Saturday.

The crowd-favorite dancers from Alamada fell to fifth place as Kabacan dancers bagged the second place followed by the Carmen and Antipas contingents at third place and fourth place, respectively.

The Midsayap dancers took home P150,000 in cash prize. (Keith Bacongco/MindaNews)
