KIDAPAWAN CITY — Authorities confiscated a truck loaded with some 5,000 board feet of illegally-cut wood during a highway inspection in Kabacan town in North Cotabato, police said.

In a belated report, Supt. Joseph Semillano, Kabacan police chief, said the truck driven by Ramil Enpuesto, 31, was intercepted around 9:00 p.m. Wednesday along Barangay Osias, Kabacan, while on its way to General Santos City.

The seized lumber were those from Mango and Acacia trees.

Semillano said Enpuesto failed to present to them documents from the local Community Environment and Natural Resources (CENRO) that would attest his transporting of the cargo.

According to the police official, the cargo papers were signed by a CENRO official from nearby Midsayap town and not from Kabacan.

Semillano further divulged that the seized lumber were cut from the lot owned by 59-year-old Ulangan Masukat in Barangay Nabundas, Pikit town, also in North Cotabato.

Authorities placed under their custody Enpuesto and truck helpers identified as Maguid Wahab, 44, of Pikit; and Jerry Yubak of General Santos City .

The truck and its cargo were turned over to CENRO in Midsayap pending deeper investigation. (PNA) ZamboTimes
